Huzzah: City Staff and Elected Officials Stay in Reasonable Lodging for Convention

I’m happy to say that every member of council and the interim city manager all stayed in hotels at rates recommended by government ethicists during their recent jaunt to the League of Cities Conference in Sacramento.

I had previously reported in the Times-Herald that former City Manager Greg Nyhoff always stayed at higher-end hotels during his business trips out of town. For one trip, Nyhoff stayed at a hotel that was more expensive than the Ritz-Carleton. Money for these expenses comes from the city’s annual budget.

Mayor Robert McConnell, Vice Mayor Rozzana Verder-Aliga, Council Member Pippin Dew, and Interim City Manager Anne Cardwell all spent an average of $175 per night on their lodging for the convention, exactly within the recommendation given by the Institute for Local Government.

The receipts for their stays were posted by the city after I filed a public records request a few weeks ago.
