Malone to Ask for $1.3 million in Staff Raises Out of Gen Fund
Vallejo City Council has agendized considering giving raises in the total amount of $1.3 million for executive staff, union members and others, at the behest of Interim City Manager Mike Malone.
According to the staff report, staff hasn’t received a raise in “over two years.” The money would be added incrementally through 2024.
The reasons for the increases are listed as being in order to “maintain internal equity, mitigate retention and recruitment challenges, and avoid compaction.”
“Compaction” is when one person does the job of several.
It should be noted that Malone did not include his position as Interim City Manager to the list, nor City Manager, for which the City has yet to begin to recruit. However, both City Attorney and City Manager’s compensation comes directly from the council after their performance reviews. Malone’s position as Water Director is included.
